15th-Jun-2008 10:35 pm - This and that
tennis

I'm coming down with a flu, tired and headache-y. My throat hurts. Mom broke her collarbone yesterday, and refused to wear a cast - opted for a fixing tape instead. It's her disease, which makes her bones weaker - she was feeling pain there for the last couple of weeks, and yesterday it just broke. The doctors say it'll take a lot longer to heal than on a normal person. She shrugged it off, like it's nothing much. She's so brave, my mom, and I can't even tell her how afraid I am.

And now I'm gonna come off as completely silly, but I've found a movie which I loved - no, which I LURVED, and it's a 2002 flick which I've never heard of before and rented two days ago on a whim. I watched it 3 times already (okay, the 3rd time was fight scenes only), and I now fully intend to buy it, and I almost never buy movies.
13th-Jun-2008 10:01 pm - Today's quarterfinals
tennis
Didn't see much today - had to go on and off constantly, and there were two retirements. What I did see, however, was pretty goddamn good.

Kohlschreiber d. Söderling
Simply put, Kohli had too much game for Söder. Served very well and assaulted Robin's forehand - a strategy that I's thought suicidal before, but Robin's big backswing really let him down on this fast surface. Kohli buried him in errors and then added a pile of his own awesome angles on top. Swift and efficient - I really like that, will be very curious to see him vs. Blake.

Nadal d. Karlovic
Nadal deserves a medal for this one. Srsly. I watched in patches, switshed on and off at different points, and it always was 30-0 or 40-0, on serve. Apparently Ivo served up 30 aces. Gawd, I'm so freaking glad this guy is out.

Federer def. Baghdatis
Expected one - Marcos is too inconsistent and frankly, not tht good to take out Fed who plays decent. And Fed was playing decent - some very nice points from both, Fed's serve was very good, but Marcos still managed several jaw-dropping returns, all in al, an enjoyable match. I just wish Fed ditched the dark blue combo from the FO - the white trimmings especially bring about some very unfortunate Little Lord Fauntleroy memories.

Nole disposed of Hewitt in a "blink and you've missed it" affair which I didn't see. So can't say anything except that he served 13 aces - me likey.

Nalbandian d. Gasquet
I was soooooo hoping that Richie will pull this one off and remedy the h2h somewhat - was not to be. Still it was the best match of the tournament and in my opinion, the year - clean, pure, free hitting from both with nice volleying and some mind-boggling gets. The rally that they played in the end of the 3rd, with, I think, Nalby serving at 5-5 40-15 and which Richie won, was the very essence of what tennis is about. Orgazmic. I always liked to watch these two play, though Nalby's pwning Richie hard in 2h2. I'm glad that Richie seems to be getting over whatever funk he's been lately just in time for Wimbledon (knock on wood). His serve was beautiful today.
11th-Jun-2008 10:08 pm - Plenty of good matches today
tennis

Why work always gets in the way when all you want to do is sit and watch tennis? Maybe painting nails in the process? Life is unfair.

I solved the dilemma as usual, by parking myself in front of the telly with my laptop, and started switching channels.

27th-Dec-2007 06:28 pm - New Year resolutions
tennis
I'm ready for the new season to begin. I was dying my hair today with a rerun of Haas-Blake from this year's USO in the background. Pity that I missed that battle (as well as most of the matches), to watch it live would've been sweet. And oh, to actually watch it from the stands at the stadium... that I could only dream about. Anyway, I was half-watching, half-listening and I thought that tennis should better begin SOON. I didn't feel that way since mid-October, actually, the last season left me exhausted (I could only imagine what the players were feeling by that point, poor things). So i went and composed
I. can't. wait!
